Franchise owner Abdul Esreb expects to select five additional sites throughout Baltimore metropolitan region over next several years after planned first quarter 2019 opening

The Original Pancake House has signed a lease with MCB Real Estate for 5112 square feet of space within The Can Company, a 205,000 square foot mixed-used project located in the Canton section of Baltimore City. Franchise owner Abdul Esreb expects to choose five additional sites throughout the Baltimore metropolitan region over the next several years, following the planned launch of the Boston Street location in first quarter 2019. Herbert Burgunder III, Member, Pessin Katz Law, P.A. (PK Law) represented The Original Pancake House in leasing negotiations, a transaction that was brokered by Joe Mekulski of KLNB Retail. Ryan WilnerBrian Finkelstein and Matt Copeland of KLNB Retail are exclusively handling leasing activities on behalf of MCB Real Estate and represented the landlord.

“We selected The Can Company as the inaugural location in our local franchise rollout because of the high density of residential product and office space that surrounds the mixed-use community,” explained Abdul Esreb, who expects approximately 25 workers to be employed at the restaurant. “The Can Company is extremely well-known and features an excellent mix of existing retailers, restaurants and businesses. The corporate office was intent on finding a suitable spot to open in Baltimore City and expand The Original Pancake House brand and this site offered the most attractive option. The two sites open in suburban Maryland near Washington, D.C. will complement this location.”

Founded in 1953, The Original Pancake House is a national sit-down restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch with a menu featuring pancakes, waffles, omelettes and crepes with specialties including Dutch Baby (oven-baked pancakes featuring a puff exterior); apple pancakes, vegetarian omelette and Danish cherry crapes. Side dishes include corned beef hash, smoked Canadian bacon, smoked ham and special recipe link and patty sausages. Two restaurants in suburban Maryland currently operate in Bethesda and Rockville, with The Can Company representing the first Baltimore-area location. More than 125 sites are open nationwide.

“The trend for consumers enjoying breakfast food throughout the day is increasing, and The Original Pancake House employs a proven formula that has made its restaurants extremely successful in nearly thirty states,” explained Herbert Burgunder of PK Law. “Adbul Esreb plans to establish a stable location at The Can Company before embarking on his expansion program throughout Baltimore City, as well as Baltimore and Howard Counties. He is an outstanding entrepreneur with a strong restaurant background.”

The Original Pancake House is occupying the location formerly leased by Langermann’s.

Last year, MCB Real Estate outlined plans to complete a range of exterior upgrades to The Can Company including the installation of a common-area park; lighting enhancements; improved building and wayfinding signage and additional landscaping elements. The signature and factory buildings at the project were also recently completely painted.

The population is more than 190,000 within a three-mile radius of The Can Company, people, including nearly 80,000 households. This is in addition to daytime employment within the immediate vicinity of more than 22,000 people. More than 16,000 vehicles pass the site via Boston Street on a daily basis.
