It is with great sadness that Pessin Katz Law, P.A. says farewell to esteemed Member Gerald M. Katz who passed away on November 3, 2014 at age 76.
Mr. Katz was widely recognized in the Baltimore legal and business communities as one of the Baltimore area’s preeminent business and tax attorneys. A certified public accountant and an attorney, Mr. Katz received his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Delaware in 1959 and his J.D. from Georgetown Law Center in 1963. He was a member of the Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia Bars and practiced law for over 50 years, 22 of those years at PK Law and over 20 years at Venable LLP where he was Chairman of the firm’s Tax Group.
Mr. Katz served as a Board Member and officer of the Chizuk Amuno Congregation, and as Chairman of Krieger Schechter Day School. Mr. Katz was also Chairman of the Maryland Bar Association Insurance Trust and served as trustee of many individual trusts.
“I don’t know if words can express how sad we are over the loss of such a dear friend, mentor and leader of our firm,” said Drake Zaharris, Managing Director of PK Law. “Jerry’s passing is a huge loss for our Firm, but his leadership legacy will help guide us through this difficult time.”
Jerry was the beloved husband of Suzanne Katz (nee Sayer); loving father of Neil (Bonnie) Katz, Alise (Tor) Alden, and Michael Katz; devoted brother of Barbara (late John) Donaghy and the late Gordon Katz; beloved brother-in-law of Dale Sayer; and loving grandfather of Alex Alden, Kelsey Alden, Jordan Katz and Alyson Katz.
Services were held on Wednesday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m. at SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC., 8900 Reisterstown Road, at Mount Wilson Lane. Interment Garrison Forest Cemetery of Chizuk Amuno Cong. Owings Mills.
The firm closed on Wednesday, November 5th in honor of Gerald M. Katz.
