Families with a loved one needing long term care often don’t know where to turn to get the answers they need. Upon completion of the course, attendees will understand the longterm care continuum and be able to reassure and guide families on the types of and best practices for paying for long term care; spend-down exceptions for spouses; protecting the family home and other assets; and qualifying for Medicaid.
6:30-8:30: Dementia 101: Managing Expressions of Need (2.0 Credits)
There are approximately 7 million Americans currently suffering with dementia and an estimated 16 million Americans will suffer by 2050. This program educates care professionals about the types of dementia, the disease process, and how to effectively work with individuals suffering from dementia. It also discusses the topic of “behavioral issues” and reframes as unmet expressions of need. The presentation also explores the physical, financial, and emotional strain that dementia can create for caregivers and shares ways to combat caregiver burnout.
