PK Law Education, Labor and Employment Member Lisa Settles was awarded the Daily Record’s Leadership in Law Award on Thursday, May 11, 2017.  Ms. Settles was supported by her colleagues at PK Law at the event who are very proud of her many distinguished accomplishments. 

The Daily Record launched the Leadership in Law Awards in 2001 as a way to recognize outstanding work being done by members of the legal community throughout Maryland. During the upcoming celebratory event, The Daily Record will also honor up-and-coming lawyers with the Generation J.D. Award and legal professionals with exemplary careers with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Winners were selected by an outside panel of legal and business leaders who evaluated the honorees’ career accomplishments, community involvement and mentoring activities that have distinguished them as outstanding leaders in the law.

Ms. Settles is a Member with PK Law and is part of the Firm’s Education, Labor and Employment and Litigation practice groups. She is an experienced trial attorney who has been practicing for more than twenty years. She primarily defends private and public sector employers in civil actions involving race, religion, gender, national origin, and disability discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, child sex abuse, premises liability, wrongful discharge, motor tort, and contract claims. Ms. Settles manages all phases of civil litigation in federal and state courts at the trial and appellate levels, including fact investigation, pre-trial discovery, extensive motions practice, settlement negotiations, witness preparation, trial advocacy and post-trial motions. She routinely represents employers in disciplinary proceedings, including termination hearings and appeals, provides counsel to executive and managerial personnel in labor and employment matters, and defends and prosecutes discrimination and retaliation claims before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights.
