1. Describe your practice.
  • I counsel families on preparing their wills, powers of attorney and trusts; help them protect assets from the costs of long term care; and answer questions on how to administer the estate of a loved one.

2. What do you enjoy most about your practice?
  • I enjoy meeting the challenge of being a good listener so I can understand a client’s concerns and explain the legal options in plain English so upon conclusion they feel relieved that their problems have been resolved.

3. Describe your perfect client.
  • People who recognize that death is inevitable and suffering from a disability is quite possible. Regardless of anyone’s net worth, they realize it is smart to implement a plan to ensure that important issues have been addressed.

4. What do you see as the biggest area of growth in your practice?
  • The boomers are reaching retirement age. Unlike like their parents, boomers are much more communicative with their families, more open to doing planning and willing to engage advisors to assist with the financial issues in the event of a health crisis or death.

5. Do you have a favorite moment practicing law?
  • The favorite moments are the smiles at the end of a client’s first consultation followed by the words “I feel much better now.”  This brings me huge satisfaction, over and over again.

6. What do you do better than other attorneys who practice in the same area of law?
  • Establish both a personal and professional bond with new clients. This means being careful to not tell people what they must do, but rather engage them in the planning process with the result being what they want to do. Many clients tell me that they won’t go back to a prior attorney because they felt confused and unimportant after the interaction.

7. What are your favorite things to do when you aren’t practicing law?
  • Giving back to the community is very satisfying for me. Being an advisor to the Harford County Boys and Girls Club, teaching at the law school, and serving on the board of the Financial Planning Association have been wonderful experiences.
