Layher Acquires Baltimore County Building For Scaffolding Distribution And Support Operations

Company relocating Northeast Region location to 7014 E. Baltimore Street

Layher North America, a producer of modular scaffolding systems used on construction sites and for industrial and corporate applications, has acquired a 36,814 square foot warehouse/office building located on 7014 E. Baltimore Street in the Dundalk section of Baltimore County. The company intends to relocate its current Northeast Region office on Lake Drive in Baltimore to this new location by the end of the year to house regional assembly, distribution, storage, and support operations. Herbert Burgunder III, Member, Pessin Katz Law, P.A. (PK Law) and Brian Siegel, Vice President of Transwestern, represented the company in the building acquisition. The sales price was $2.5 million.

Headquartered in Germany and founded over 70 years ago, Layher, Inc. operates in more than 40 countries worldwide and, through its Layher North America division, maintains four locations in the United States and two in Canada. The company manufactures a complete array of scaffold, protective and access systems and products that are used for renovation and demolition activities, public access applications and for specialized uses in the petrochemical, industrial and general corporate industries.

“This new building provides the space we need to maintain an extremely active regional office, while also providing expansion opportunities as we continue to add customers and increase capacity,” explained Frank Frietsch, CEO and Executive Vice President of Layher. “We were attracted to the building’s prime location near convenient highway systems and its relatively close proximity to our former site, which will minimize disruptions to our employees and customers.”

Frietsch added that the E. Baltimore Street location will be utilized as a logistics hub to transfer scaffolding products throughout the northeastern section of the United States, as well as to house assembly, office and sales functions. “We anticipate engineering activities to also occur at the new site,” he said. Layher engineering activities include planning, design, and consulting in support of scaffolding needs. The single-story building is suitable for assembly, office and storage applications and features 18-foot ceilings and a free, surface parking lot. It is positioned adjacent to Interstate 95 and is within close proximity to US Route 40 and Interstate 695 (Baltimore Beltway).

“This multi-functional building satisfied each real estate and operational criteria in the search, and Layher also expressed the importance of maintaining a presence in Baltimore County so this goal was achieved,” stated Herbert Burgunder III, Member, Pessin Katz Law, P.A. (PK Law). “The structure will need minimal retrofitting to suit the needs of the company, so we expect an extremely rapid ramp up of operations upon completion of the move.”

“A significant driver in this requirement was the need for substantial outside storage yard area and, with the building contained on slightly less than six acres of land, we were able to accommodate this demand,” explained Brian Siegel, Vice President of Transwestern.

“We are very pleased that Layher will locate its mid-Atlantic headquarters in Dundalk. Their investment is another welcome addition to the area’s business community, and is yet another indicator that the district is on the rise” stated Baltimore County Councilman Todd K. Crandell, 7th District.
