PK Law Members Catherine W. Steiner and Edmund J. O’Meally have been named Best Lawyers 2020 Lawyers of the Year – Baltimore. Ms. Steiner is Lawyer of the Year for Professional Medical Malpractice – Defense and Mr. O’Meally is Lawyer of the Year for Education Law. Ms. Steiner is a Member in PK Law’s Medical Malpractice Defense Group. She has over 27 years of extensive trial experience, representing health care providers in the defense of serious medical malpractice claims before all of the trial courts throughout the State of Maryland and in cases appealed to Maryland’s intermediate and highest appellate courts.
She also represents physicians, nurses, dentists, and other health care providers in proceedings before The Maryland Board of Physicians, The Maryland Board of Nursing, The Maryland Board of Dental Examiners and other administrative agencies of the State of Maryland and hospitals and physicians involved in internal credentialing and privileging proceedings and in other hospital governance matters.
Ms. Steiner is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America. She is rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell, has been listed in Maryland Super Lawyers since 2007-2008, 2010-2018. She has been recognized in the areas of medical malpractice and professional malpractice law by The Best Lawyers of America® since 2009.
Mr. O’Meally is head of the Labor and Employment and Education Group at PK Law, and has worked closely with superintendents, boards of education, private schools, and private sector employers for over 33 years on a wide-variety of matters including collective bargaining, employment litigation, student discipline and special education, drug and alcohol issues, construction and procurement issues, and Open Meetings Act compliance.
Mr. O’Meally is an Adjunct Professor of School Law at Johns Hopkins University, Goucher College, McDaniel College, and Morgan State University and has given numerous presentations on employment and education issues for the North American Association of Education Negotiators, the Education Law Association, the Maryland Association of Boards of Education, the Maryland Negotiations Service, the Association of School Business Officials, the Public School Superintendents Association of Maryland, the Office of Administrative Hearings, MICPEL, and other groups.
