Pessin Katz Law, P.A. (PK Law) is pleased to announce that James R. Benjamin, Jr., will be honored with a 2014 Leadership in Law award by The Maryland Daily Record.

Mr. Benjamin is a Member with PK Law.  He defends individuals and business entities in medical malpractice, personal injury and premises liability matters.  He represents property owners in Baltimore City in complex lead paint and toxic tort litigation at both the trial and appellate levels.  Mr. Benjamin also has significant experience representing and advising minority-owned and women-owned businesses (MBEs and WBEs) on certification and procurement matters as well as in structuring and creating joint ventures and teaming arrangements.

Mr. Benjamin was a former law clerk for the Honorable Ellen M. Heller in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.  He also served as an Assistant City Solicitor with the Baltimore City Law Department.  Currently, he is the Immediate Past-President of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law Alumni Association Board, a Board Member of the Pro Bono Resource Center, a Board Member with the Baltimore County Bar Foundation, a Member of the Board of Visitors and Co-Chair of the Diversity Sub-Committee for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at University of Maryland College Park.  He was selected for inclusion in ”Rising Stars” in Super Lawyers Magazine, 2009-2012, was named one of Baltimore Business Journal’s “40 Under 40,” 2005, and was recognized as a Very Important Professional (VIP), “Successful by 40” by the Maryland Daily Record in 2012. He also has an AV® Preeminent™ rating by Martindale-Hubbell. 

Twenty-six members of the legal community throughout Maryland were recognized for their outstanding work. Nominations were received from The Daily Record’s readers in addition to area law firms, bar associations, chambers of commerce and the business and legal communities at large. Nominees were asked to complete an application that outlined their career accomplishments, community involvement and mentoring activities that would distinguish them as outstanding leaders in the law. An external panel of judges and a representative of The Daily Record reviewed the nominations and made the selections.

The 2014 Leadership in Law awards will be presented Nov. 13 at a reception and dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. at the BWI Hilton, 1739 W. Nursery Road in Linthicum Heights. Winners will be profiled in a special magazine that will be inserted into the Nov. 14 issue of The Daily Record and available online at www.TheDailyRecord.com
