Baltimore, MD- Pessin Katz Law (“PK Law”) is pleased to announce that our Medical Malpractice Defense Group received a Band 1 Ranking for Healthcare-Medical Malpractice in Maryland by Chambers and Partners USA.
PK Law’s Medical Malpractice Defense Group has been steadily growing since four core members of the group merged into the firm from a large Baltimore firm. The group currently has 12 lawyers, two of which were practicing nurses prior to obtaining their law degrees, and four paralegals. The Group is one of the largest and acclaimed medical malpractice defense teams in the region. The Group has extensive trial experience representing health care providers in complex medical negligence and personal injury actions in Maryland’s state, federal and appellate courts, as well as in administrative hearings for disciplinary proceedings before the various licensing boards. In an effort to help clients avoid contentious and costly litigation, the Group also provides risk management advice to medical professionals, their practice groups, and health care facilities and takes an active role in early resolution of matters where warranted.
The Group represents large institutional clients such as the Johns Hopkins University, the Johns Hopkins Health System, the University of Maryland Medical System, and Mercy Health Services, Inc., as well as medical malpractice insurance carriers including The Medical Protective Company and The Doctors Company. The firm also represents a regional chain of urgent care centers, Patient First.
Along with the prestigious Band 1 Ranking from Chambers, the Attorneys in the Group have received numerous accolades including Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; Fellows in the Litigation Counsel of America Trial Lawyer Honorary Society; Best Lawyers in America for Medical Malpractice Law and Professional Malpractice Law; Best Lawyers in America – Professional Malpractice: Defendants for the Baltimore Area– Lawyer of the Year; Maryland Super Lawyers and Rising Stars; Maryland Top 100 Lawyers; Maryland Top 50 Women Lawyers; and AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Chambers USA has been ranking the best lawyers since 1990, and now covers 185 jurisdictions. It ranks lawyers and law firms on several factors and considerations, all of which are investigated by a team of more than 140 full time researchers. Individual lawyers are ranked (in their practice-area(s)) on the basis of their legal knowledge and experience, their ability, their effectiveness, and their client-service. Law firm rankings relate to a department of the firm, not to the firm as a whole. Law-firm departments are ranked on the qualities of their lawyers and the effectiveness and capability of the department as a whole – its strength and depth. These factors and considerations are judged by interviews with those active in the market who are mainly clients and other lawyers with whom they work; and by assessing recent work done. Internal meetings are held by researchers, deputy editors and editors to go through the research conducted and to compile and approve the ranking tables.
We are proud of our group and are honored to have this distinguished ranking.
