Rochelle’s Special Education Tips

Please Mr. Postman, look and see
If there’s a letter in your bag for me.

Have you ever noticed that the postman manages to get all of the mail delivered, except for the IEP/504 Plan and related documents? Even though you put these documents in the mail in the normal course of business along with all of the other mail and all of the other mail was delivered to the intended recipients. Could it be, is it possible, that the postman delivered all of the mail except for the IEP/504 Plan and related documents? And isn’t it remarkable how this has happened more than once to the same family?

If you have experienced this most curious situation, consider doing the following: Send all IEPs/504 Plans by both First Class Mail and Certified Mail. Or, if you have permission from your school system to do so, and the parents agree to e-mail delivery of documents, send the documents via First Class Mail and E-Mail. Further, whenever there is an attorney or advocate involved, you should automatically deliver documents using two forms of delivery. You may need proof that you have sent the documents in a timely manner.
